Fairfield United Church is on the corner of Fairfield Road and Moss Street. Constructed in 1926, the 92-year-old Church has deteriorated over time beyond viable repair. Over a period of three years, the Fairfield United congregation discussed the future of the Church and sought input from the community. As the church is not on the City of Victoria’s heritage registry it can be dismantled. A decision was made in late 2015 to sell the property and seek a redevelopment opportunity that would include space for the new home of Fairfield United.
Unity Urban Properties Ltd. purchased the Fairfield United Church property in 2016 and are the proponents of the Unity Commons redevelopment proposal. Unity Urban Properties is working closely with the congregation of Fairfield United and the neighbourhood to ensure that the new development fosters inclusion, creates needed rental homes, improves the public realm and contributes to community well-being. All materials will be repurposed, upcycled and recycled as part of the redevelopment.
